Trumpcare Shift-To-Edge Empty Trumpcare Shift-To-Edge

Well, this happened:

So Trumpcare decided to shift to the extreme, and it ended up passing. This is a major blow to government healthcare, and will have many ramifications, most notably in the removal of the clauses defending those with pre-existing conditions. This is very disappointing.

This angers me. Estimates put the number of people who would have died without the affordable care act and 43,000 annually. That is 43,000 people who will die once the ACA is repealed. At the moment there is little evidence to believe that the replacement will be any more, equally, or even close to being as effective. This should not be a divisive issue, this should be as simple as deciding whether people can't afford medicine deserve to die, because that is ultimately what this is. I cannot put into words the fury I have that there will be people in the nation with the highest GDP on Earth and prides itself on being the freest who die because they can't afford insulin, or the HIV pill, or surgery for congenital heart disease. If infuriates people me that people I know who live in cushy lives state how they don't want to have to pay for the sickness of other people, because an extra 2.2% tax premium is just so expensive. I sincerely hope that the Senate does not pass this bill, and if they do I mourn with those who lose loved ones for the apparent crime of being in poverty.

"It will allow insurance companies to require people who have higher health care costs to contribute more to the insurance pool that helps offset all these costs, thereby reducing the cost to those people who lead good lives. They’re healthy; they’ve done the things to keep their bodies healthy. And right now, those are the people who have done things the right way that are seeing their costs skyrocketing."

-GOP Representative Mo Brooks of Alabama
