BREAKING NEWS: US sends missiles to Syrian Airbase in retaliation for chemical attack

Holy crap, it happened.
In response to a chemical attack that killed more than 80 Syrians, Trump sent 59 Tomahawk Missiles into a Syrian Airbase.
Holy crap.

Interesting elements:
First major visible US attack on a foreign state, versus the various attacks on foreign groups like ISIS.
The missile attack was in the first 72 hours of the chemical attack, an incredibly quick turn-around (even we didn't get to put news about the attack)
Syria is a Russian Ally. Attacking them will put a strain on Trump and Russia.
The attack came without warning- in contrast to Obama's various threats and warnings.
This was something Obama promised would happen if Syria didn't destroy their chemical weapons. Trump fulfilled Obama's promise.

Still to early to think about its other implications and effects. Please discuss this!!

The Videos were just released by the pentagon of the Tomahawk missiles being launched. It appears that they hit, and Tomahawks are usually incredibly precise. Its most likely that they hit their targets exactly.
It is unclear whether the jets were moved to another location, seeing as the airbase was an obvious target. 50-60 of these missiles were launched near Homs.

There doesn't even seem to be a strategy towards this. Are there plans for the future after this decision other than just hoping it changes their actions? Again, this is unclear.

News Update:

Deaths: Syrian government claims 6 dead, some wounded. No international verification however.

Russia: We told Russia beforehand long enough to get them out of the base, but they are upset at us for the bombing of one of their allies. Putin himself said this was against international law, and that it will damage US-Russian relations.

Assad: The Syrian government is upset, and continues to claim that the chemical attack was performed by terrorists. This idea is shared with its allies, Russia and Iran.

Chemicals: No chemical facilities were directly targeted.

Strange Unity: Attack supported by Marco Rubio, John McCain, and Hillary Clinton.

Congress: Congress was not notified before the attack and was not allowed to vote on its legality. They are a bit upset in that respect.

Alt-Right: Trump's most fanatical supporters are abandoning him over the strike. They are generally pro-Russia, and believe the chemical attack was either a terrorist attack or a hoax perpetuated by the 'Washington Deep State".

Trump&Russia: The proceedings will be more difficult, as this anti-Russian action will be used to draw away from his prior Russian collusions.



TL;DR: International Politics got messy.
